This project aims to improve grid reliability, increase renewable energy integration, and advance digitalisation efforts in key areas of North Macedonia's transmission network. It consists of 7 separate investment components, as follows: 1) Digitalisation of Bitola 1 and Sopotnica substations; 2) Reconstruction of 110 kV OHL Vrutok – Gostivar – Jegunovce – Skopje 3 – Gjorce Petrov – Skopje 1; 3) Reconstruction of 110 kV OHL Ohrid – Struga – Globocica – Spilje – Vrutok; 4) Upgrading Bitola – Meliti (Greece) 400 kV interconnection (grid section in North Macedonia); 5) Implementation of a dynamic line rating system; 6) Reconstruction and rehabilitation of the pylon testing station in Ohrid; 8) Equipment for a training centre for high-voltage equipment operators.
The WBIF provides technical assistance for developing the feasibility and environmental and social scoping studies for the project.
