Launched in 2013, the programme combines a comprehensive package of financing from the EBRD and KfW, EU incentives and additional donor funds for technical assistance and policy dialogue.

Funding channelled under the REEP support the Western Balkans countries in designing and implementing legislation to eliminate market barriers to energy efficiency and accelerate the take-up of investments in this area. In addition to policy development, the programme provides the countries with financing for investments in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Over €1.1 bn has been extended to energy efficiency upgrades in public buildings, such as schools and hospitals, as well as in residential sector, individual households and local businesses. The programme also supports the decarbonisation of local district heating companies, helping them transition to clean energy sources.
